History of Cambodia
Cambodia is a small country in Southeast Asia near Vietnam and Thailand. The country was ruled by a tyrant and ravaged by war during the late 1970's. During that time, one third of the population (about 2 million people) was exterminated. Those killed were the country's educated, including political leaders, military personnel, doctors, and teachers. All buildings that used or created machinery, such as power and industrial plants, were destroyed, leaving the country without the capacity or knowledge to manufacture goods. Today, the country is still trying to rebuild from the devastating effects of the war. Most live in poverty and struggle to make a dollar a day, but they still have hope for change.
